Fasten Seat Belts

Sun, sand and a warm breeze right outside our door, fluffy white beds and a Starbucks downstairs, the epitome of relaxation, ahhh. Did I mention I have a very energetic, jabberbox of a three year old with me in this place of calm. Despite a slight regret of bringing a child to this Florida paradise I am thankful so far. We made it to Ft. Lauderdale and really it couldn't have gone any better.

With each new step and segment of the travel plan I held my breath a little, this is our first "real" vacation with Trexen, his first time on an airplane and his first time to the ocean. As he rode his new Trunki from Nama yelling "oh ya" through the airport I thought about each family, child and how different life is for everyone. There were babies, parents loaded down with bags and kids strolling passed security like no big thing and I realized how normal to some is out of the ordinary to others.

With their colic and intense hatred for sleep it just hasn't been feasible to take our kids on vacations, the thought of late night screaming in a hotel made me sweat and the idea of being confined to a tiny airplane seat was unthinkable...until now. Trex is three and was ready to give it a try. He is one of the most unpredictable uptight little kids I know but we decided to go for it.

So far he has shocked me, made me smile and kept me laughing with his new found dance moves. As the flight attendant kept saying "fasten your seat belts" Trexen would yell "I did", he didn't even flinch when the plane took off and never once cried or whined. I know that to some traveling is a very frequent occurrence and no big deal with their kiddos but this has been a huge point of worry and anxiety for everyone in the fam but Trexen is surprising us all and is a joy-filled traveler.

Sometimes when you step out of comfort, say yes to the unknown and take a chance fantastic memories are created. More to come from the sunny sands of Florida, make sure to check back mid-week for a fabulous giveaway.
